CANTON, Mo. — 91ֱ continued its long-standing tradition of honoring its historic covenant with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) during a special worship service held Sunday, Feb. 1 at the Canton Christian Church.

For more than 172 years, 91ֱ has stood as a beacon of educational excellence and historical significance, weathering pivotal moments in American history while remaining steadfast in its commitment to service, social responsibility, and innovation. The annual covenant service reaffirmed the enduring relationship between the College and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), reinforcing shared values that continue to guide the institution today.

“Each year, we gather to reaffirm the meaningful partnership between 91ֱ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ),” said Dr. Lauren Schellenberger, president of C-SC. “This relationship reflects our shared commitment to faith, service, and community, and it remains a vital part of our institutional identity.”

This year’s service featured alumna Jill Cameron Michel ’95, pastor of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Coralville/Iowa City (Iowa), who delivered the worship message. The service also included special music performed by the 91ֱ Concert Choir under the direction of Dr. Andrew Schroetter, assistant professor of music.

Faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members attended the service as a visible demonstration of Culver-Stockton’s continued dedication to its heritage and the enduring covenant that has shaped the institution for generations.

91ֱ Reports 25% Growth in New Students and Highest Retention in 10 Years /news/2025/culver-stockton-college-reports-25-growth-in-new-students-and-highest-retention-in-10-years/ Mon, 15 Sep 2025 16:35:45 +0000 /?p=43348 CANTON, Mo. — 91ֱ is celebrating significant growth this fall, welcoming a student body that reflects both strong regional ties and expanding global reach. New student enrollment increased by 25% compared to last year, for a total of 314, with students representing 37 states, Puerto Rico, and 12 countries.

In addition to the increase in new students, C-SC achieved a 10+ year high in student retention (excluding the 2020 pandemic year), with close to 90% of students returning from spring to fall. The number of transfer students also increased by 50% compared to last year, marking C-SC’s highest total in a decade, excluding the year when many students transferred from the now-closed Iowa Wesleyan.

“91ֱ continues to thrive because of our commitment to personalized, experiential learning,” said Dr. Lauren Schellenberger, President of 91ֱ. “The strong retention numbers reflect the dedication of our faculty and staff, and the significant increase in new student enrollment shows that students from across the nation, around the world, and in our own backyard recognize that we can equip them with the technical knowledge, adaptable critical-thinking abilities, and powerful interpersonal skills they need to succeed in today’s economy.”

C-SC’s momentum is also reflected in the College’s financial standing. Financial Responsibility Scores, issued annually by the U.S. Department of Education, are ranked in three tiers, with Tier One scores ranging from 1.500 to 3.000 and 3.000 being the highest. Culver-Stockton has improved its score each of the past three years, moving from 2.200 in 2022 to 2.500 in 2023 and achieving a perfect 3.000 in 2024. (The 2025 U.S. Dept. of Ed scores have not been released yet.)

“Our growth is not only about numbers, it is also about bringing together a diverse, talented, and engaged student body,” noted Vice President for Enrollment Management Melanie Lechtenberg. “From local students to those traveling thousands of miles, our Wildcats are choosing Culver-Stockton because they see a community where they belong and a college where they can excel.”

91ֱ’s enrollment growth underscores the College’s continued investment in academic programs that align with the needs of business and industry, student success, and campus life.

High school seniors are encouraged to apply early in their senior year and to remain attentive to scholarship deadlines. The 2026-27 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will open October 1, and students are advised to complete their applications as soon as possible to maximize potential aid for the Fall 2026 semester.

To learn more about academic programs and campus life, prospective students are invited to attend Explore the Roar Visit Day on Friday, Sept. 19. Registration is required. Sign up today at culver.edu/visit.

Culver-Stockton also offers individual visits on most weekdays and select Saturdays, providing opportunities for a campus tour, meetings with faculty, and connections with coaches and fine arts faculty. Admission counselors are available to answer questions and guide students through the application process. Group visits for student organizations may be arranged by contacting the Admission Office at admission@culver.edu.

In addition, C-SC will host several fall events:

  • Young Writers Conference (Oct. 8) — High school students work with faculty and C-SC students in creative writing, non-fiction, playwriting, and more.
  • Master of Athletic Training Visit Day (Oct. 13) — Students interested in athletic training participate in hands-on activities, earn Stop the Bleed certification, and learn about career opportunities in sports medicine.
  • Honor Choir (Oct. 15) — High school students participate in workshops, tour campus, and conclude the day with a performance.
  • Stand and Deliver: The Wildcat Gauntlet (Nov. 4) — An interactive competition designed to prepare education majors for the professional expectations of the field.

More information about and a registration link for the upcoming events are available at culver.edu/visit.

For questions about admission and/or scholarship opportunities, contact the Admission Office at (800) 537-1883 or admission@culver.edu.

Get a Real Feel for College Life at 91ֱ’s Explore the Roar Visit Day on Sept. 19 /news/2025/get-a-real-feel-for-college-life-at-culver-stockton-colleges-explore-the-roar-visit-day-on-sept-19/ Thu, 21 Aug 2025 19:31:36 +0000 /?p=42362 CANTON, Mo. — Choosing the right college isn’t easy, but what if you could spend a day experiencing what college is really like before you even apply? That’s exactly what 91ֱ’s Explore the Roar visit day, set for Friday, Sept. 19, is all about.

Designed specifically for high school students, Explore the Roar offers a firsthand look at life on the Hill. The day offers attendees the opportunity to meet with faculty, current students, and staff, so they will walk away with a real understanding of what it means to be part of the Wildcat community.

“Selecting a college after graduation is a very important decision and can sometimes feel overwhelming,” said Vice president for Enrollment Management Melanie Lechtenberg. “That’s why we feel it is essential to give students an opportunity to experience campus life up close and personal during this special event. Visitors will have a chance to become more familiar with our hands-on learning approach and our unique 12+3 academic calendar structure, while participating in fun activities and enjoying the views from the Hill.”

The day begins at 10 a.m. with a guided campus tour led by a Wildcat Ambassador, followed by a Q&A session with C-SC admission counselors. Students will then break into groups for divisional academic activities before heading to the campus dining hall for a complimentary lunch. The day will conclude by 1 p.m.

Registration is required. Sign up today at culver.edu/visit. For questions, contact Admissions at (800) 537-1883.

C-SC to Observe Denim Day April 30 /news/2025/culver-stockton-college-to-observe-denim-day-april-30/ Tue, 22 Apr 2025 18:50:13 +0000 /?p=40639 91ֱ (C-SC) faculty, staff and students will observe Denim Day on Wednesday, April 30, as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM).

Denim Day is the longest-running sexual violence prevention and education campaign and encourages individuals to wear denim to help bring awareness to sexual assault.

According to Reyna Blakley, a grant project director at C-SC, Denim Day began more than 25 years ago.

“The day was established after the Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped to remove her jeans, implying consent. The following day, women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim.”

Denim Day is held annually, and helps highlight misconceptions surrounding sexual violence. Each year, millions wear denim on the last Wednesday in April to show their support for survivors and provide awareness.

This year’s campus event will take place in the Gladys Crown Student Center from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. Activities will include:
● Denim decorating
● C-SC frame for photos
● Resources/information
● Goodies/giveaways
● Wear Jeans with a purpose

91ֱ has also partnered with AVENUES, the domestic violence and sexual assault shelter and outreach program to provide additional activities and information. All donations made by C-SC faculty and staff to wear jeans will be given to AVENUES to help survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

C-SC offers resources and free confidential support and mental health services to students year-around. For more information about the services C-SC provides, visit /campus-life/counseling-wellness/.

This project was supported by Grant No. 15JOVW-23-GG-04472-CAMP awarded by the Office on Violence Against Women, U.S. Department of Justice.
