CANTON, Mo. 鈥 The 91直播 Wind Ensemble will present a special concert honoring the United States Semiquincentennial Saturday, March 28聽 at 7:30 p.m. in the Alexander Campbell Auditorium located in the Robert W. Brown Performing Arts Center at C-SC. The performance is free and open to the public. Students who attend may earn ACE credit.

Directed by Culver-Stockton Professor of Music and Director of Bands Dr. Trent Hollinger, the program will feature a collection of American wind band works that reflect the nation鈥檚 history, resilience, and spirit.

The evening鈥檚 centerpiece is Aaron Copland鈥檚 鈥淟incoln Portrait,鈥 a work that combines wind band music with excerpts from the writings and speeches of President Abraham Lincoln. The performance will feature guest narrator C-SC Director of Choral Activities and Assistant Professor Dr. Andrew Schroetter, whose narration will bring to life the enduring legacy of the 16th president.

“As we approach America鈥檚 Semiquincentennial, this program serves as a musical time capsule. By pairing the profound words of Lincoln with the spirited marches of Sousa and the settings of folk songs with one of America鈥檚 most important 20th century composers, our students are exploring the complex and triumphant sounds that have shaped the American identity over the last 250 years,” said Hollinger.

Additional selections include Morton Gould鈥檚 鈥淎merican Salute,鈥 based on 鈥淲hen Johnny Comes Marching Home鈥; Percy Grainger鈥檚 鈥淪poon River,鈥 inspired by an Illinois folk melody; Ronald Lo Presti鈥檚 鈥淓legy for a Young American,鈥 composed in memory of President John F. Kennedy; 鈥淎 Bernstein Tribute,鈥 arranged by Clare Grundman; and John Philip Sousa鈥檚 鈥淭he Stars and Stripes Forever.鈥
